Apple Picking

Fall is the busiest, best-smelling time of year on our farm. We open apple season with Premier Honeycrisp — the variety most people drive out here for — and move through others like Sweet Tango as they ripen on the tree. Because we're a small orchard, what's ripe changes week to week, so it's always worth a quick text before you head out.

You're welcome to walk the rows and pick your own, or grab pre-picked bags from the sales room if you're short on time. Our trees are trained so that most of the fruit is within easy reach, which makes picking simple for kids and for anyone who'd rather not wrestle a ladder. There's no entrance fee, no wristband, and no charge just to walk around — you pay for the apples you take home and that's it.

Strawberry Picking — U-Pick or Pre-Picked

June belongs to strawberries. Our rows sit on straw-mulched ground so the picking stays clean and comfortable, and the berries ripen sweet all the way through — nothing like the pale ones that travel across the country to a grocery store.

U-Pick strawberries are a favorite first farm experience for little kids. The rows are flat and easy to walk, and toddlers can reach the fruit themselves without any help. Families often tell us they came for a box and stayed for an hour, which is exactly how we like it.

Prefer to skip the bending? We keep pre-picked boxes in the sales room during the season, picked that morning. Strawberry season is short and weather-dependent, so text us to check how the rows are doing before you drive out — texting is the fastest way to reach us, and we'll tell you straight if picking is light that day.

Orchard & Farm Tours

We host orchard and farm tours for families, small groups and anyone curious about how fruit actually gets grown. We'll walk you through the orchard, talk about the varieties we plant and why, how the season unfolds from bloom to harvest, and what the day-to-day work of a small family farm looks like.

Tours are relaxed and conversational rather than scripted — you'll be talking to the family that runs the place. Kids are encouraged to ask questions, touch things and taste what's ripe.

Because we're a working farm and the schedule follows the weather and the harvest, tours are by arrangement. Call or text us with the size of your group and a few dates that could work, and we'll set something up that fits the season.

The Country Fruit Picking Experience

Getting here is part of it. The drive out from Red Wing winds through the Mississippi River Valley bluffs, and visitors regularly tell us the road itself was the highlight of the morning. The last stretch is gravel — follow the signs to Red Wing Orchards, and call or text if you need a hand finding us.

What you'll find at the end of that drive is a small, quiet farm rather than a midway. No admission gate, no rides, no lines. Just orchard rows, the sales room, the family that runs it and whatever is ripe that week.

That's a deliberate choice. We'd rather be the place you remember for the view, the fruit and an unhurried conversation than the place that sold you the most tickets. Bring a camera; the bluffs and the orchard rows photograph beautifully in both June and October.

Pre-Picked Fruit

Not everyone has an hour to spend in the rows, and that's fine. We keep pre-picked bags of apples and boxes of strawberries in the sales room throughout each season, picked at peak ripeness by the same hands that tend the trees.

Pre-picked apples come by the bag, and the buy-three-get-one-free offer applies to them too. It's the easiest way to load up for pies, sauce, or gifts for the neighbors.

You can order ahead through our shop page for farm pickup, which is handy on busy fall Saturdays. Send the order through and we'll confirm your pickup day by text or a call — usually within the hour.

Seasonal Products & Handmade Goods

Roughly forty seasonal items pass through our sales room across a year. Fresh apple cider, pressed from our own fall apples, is the one people sample and then buy two of. Our fresh-baked apple pies start in October and are sold Saturdays only, at the farm only — we don't ship pies, and we won't pretend otherwise.

We also handmake wooden cutting boards in small, medium and large sizes. They're built one at a time in our shop from solid hardwood, so each one is a little different, and they've become a favorite gift for people who already have enough apples.

What's on the shelves depends on what's in season and what the family has been making that week. Stop in, ask what's fresh, and we'll tell you what we'd take home ourselves.

Tips for Picking Day

Wear closed-toe shoes you don't mind getting dusty — orchard and field ground is uneven.
Mornings are cooler and calmer, especially with young kids. Fall Saturdays are our busiest.
Bring sun hats, sunscreen and water in June; a light jacket for crisp October mornings.
A wagon or stroller works fine on our rows if you're bringing toddlers.
